I have a lame chick that I thought had gotten trampled by the other chicks in their cage. I brought her in and upon examination to figure out what the problem was with her I found some strange things. If you look close enough at the pictures you’ll see that one foot has 5 toes. This isn’t unusual for my flock because I have many silkie crosses. What’s strange are the small bumps you can see in the pictures are claws. Yes, she has toes all over her feet. Tiny little toes growing in places toes don’t belong.
I have her inside hoping she just has a sprain and with a week or two of rest she’ll heal up. She’s eating, drinking , chirping and pooping, so she’s pretty much just not able to put weight on one leg for a long period of time. There’s no swelling or fever and she’s moving better than she was a couple days ago.
I’m just curious about the toes and if anyone has ever seen this before.

Interesting! I have never seen that.
Me either. I’ve got several with an extra toe growing off the back toe, but they’re part silkie. This baby may have at least 13 toes. I’m checking to see if the extra toes are still growing . I don’t recall that claw being quite that big te

unfortunately I had to cull her. I examined her again today and figured out she couldn’t walk at all. She had the things growing out of the bottom of her feet as well. I counted 8 extra toes with claws on both feet, including one that was growing out of the bottom of one foot and one just barely sticking though on the bottom of the other. I can’t find any examples of this anywhere. Not even on the weird stuff sites.
The worst part was that they were still growing.

Poor little thing.

That’s so sad and unfortunate that they couldn’t have just been removed and cauterized so they wouldn’t grow back.

Right now I can’t even get my cat in to be neutered at my vet. I’ve been waiting almost 4 months. It’s almost impossible to get in for anything other than general stuff like shots. They’re not doing any surgical procedures.

That’s too bad. My daughter is a vet tech and here they have never stopped seeing patients or doing surgeries. They were considered essential, although they have new strict policies about visitors.

We had Willy’s appointment all set and they canceled saying they didn’t have the PPE to do surgeries. It’s been four months and the hubby can’t reach them. I suggested we find another vet.
