Tolbunt Cochin Project...anyone interested?

First cross should produce all black patterned gold incomplete half spangleds split for mottled (F1). Breed these together in year 2. Select the best mottled birds from this cross and breed back to gold laced which will produce split mottleds again. Breed the splits back together and it should be done. This is how it is explained in the recipe but The calculator shows it being done a few different ways from what I've played around with.

i will have some young birds that will help you i have a gold laced hen running with a mottled rooster these are LF I JUST NEED THEM TO MATURE SOME more so i know what ones i want to keep

Which doesn't matter, I guess. Like you said, the "formula" isn't that difficult, it just takes time. I think it would be awesome to have Tolbunt Cochins! How pretty.

Well, I have mille bantam cochins (project birds of course), gold laced bantam cochins, and mottled bantam cochins. Pullet and Cockerels of EACH breed

I have a show quality mottled rooster.....plus 7 young mille project roos growing out....my mille adult roo is dark. Might be a good start.

I won't be ready to try anything till some of my younguns are all "growed up"....Probably put my gold laced hens to mille roo for a bit, then swap them to the mottled roo for a bit.

LOL, yes, I know that picture is photoshopped, but that's the best example of what I'd like to aim for. I don't expect perfection, but would like to at least come close!

that was me a few months back. Had to finally drive a few hours (each way) to pick up a trio of Gold laced.....then the best hen died within a couple weeks (grrrr). I still have the pair and have hatched out 4 chicks from them......and ended up with 4 more from TSC. When I bought the trio, they came with an extra 8 week old cockerel. He is a nice boy and will probably replace my GL roo....Not sure on the babies whether I have boys or girls yet....

My struggle was actually to find mottled cochins. I was given a very nice quality mottled cockerel.......but couldn't find any pullets or hens. Bought 3 chicks from TSC, and ended up with a trio, 1 cockerel, 2 pullets. I will grow out the mottled boy just in case, but most likely will use Mr Mottled as he is SO typey.

He should be able to fix any poor type on hatchery gold laced hens......I plan to use him to fix type on my lavender cochins as well. He needs to live forever, apparently LOL.

He's a very pretty boy! I have 2 mottled pullets (about 5 months old) that I hatched from someone on here...both are very nice. Plus I have 20 blue/black mottled eggs in the bator from jimnjay (we know how nice those will be!) with the possibility of some of them being frizzled too. So I have a good start on those. Now to find the GL. LOL.
