Tom breeding

Should the Tom keep breeding the hen while she laying eggs? I haven't seen them breed in awhile. She more interested in eating grass. And he more interested in chickens.

He only has to breed her aprx. every 20 to 30 days to fertilize her eggs.The rest of the time he's more or less just having fun!

That seems like a long time to remain fertile........

The seamen can fertilize the eggs for up to 4 weeks. It is normal and okay to let the tom keep doing his thing,but yea the seamen stays viable for a long time inside the hen.

Does anyone know if the same is true for other species of Poultry?

Just for the heck of it, typed in turkey sperm viability within hen on Google, and got links to a couple of USDA research article abstracts (http://www.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publications.htm?SEQ_NO_115=163523). Sounds like the 20 -30 isn't too far off. They're saying anywhere from 45 up to 70???days.
