Tom was on the Graham Norton show the other night - on the BBC - I could NOT believe how young he looks, I don't know how old he is, but he certainly doesn't look his age.

Edit to add: its SIR TOM JONES apparently!

Famous
for his tight trousers, chest wig and smooth voice, Tom Jones was born and brought up in the coal mining community of Pontypridd, Wales. He knew from an early age that he had a talent for singing, and he would pester his Mum to let him at any opportunity - often standing on a table so that everyone could see and hear him.

After contracting tuberculosis at 13, a doctor told his parents that he had weak lungs, and should not work down the pits. After leaving school at 15 he became a builder's labourer, and found that his lungs weren't so weak that he couldn't sing. Inspired by rock 'n' roll, he began spending his evenings performing in working men's clubs with his band, the Senators.

In 1964 Jones was spotted by Gordon Mills, a London-based songwriter and manager. Mills immediately recognised Jones' star quality, and took him down to London where he recorded It's Not Unusual - a song that became a smash hit in both Britain and America.

Hits such as Once Upon A Time, Delilah, Green, Green Grass Of Home and even the theme tune to the James Bond film Thunderball followed. Jones was an international star, friends with Elvis, and infamous for having women's knickers thrown at him during performances.

Fast-forward four decades and Jones is still going strong, with a new album out on 16 November. He is still with his wife Linda who he married when he was 16, and still retains his Welsh accent - despite having lived in the US for 30 years!

I remember watching his TV show every Wednesday night back in the 60's. He had a lot of great songs but my favorite was "The Green Green Grass of Home" Nobody sings it like him.
