i recently got 2 Royal Palm turkeys and I have no idea how to tell if they are male and female, they are about a week old. I’ve never vent checked before and am scared I will injure my birds if I do so.

At some point between three to six months of age, you should be able to tell the sex by physical characteristics. Hatcheries only sell turkey poults straight run. I do not recommend that you attempt to vent sex them as injury is possible and you are not likely to be able to tell which is which anyway.

For your amusement you may want to try @Celie method. Be sure to read the second post as it clarifies the first post. I have had 100% correct results using her method and I have had 100% incorrect results at other times.
