My 1 year old tom has started sitting on eggs with his girl this week. The hens have been nesting for about 3 weeks now, they chose to nest about 2 feet from each other, tom usually stays close by during the day and had been going to roost in the evenings, but I had been noticing him in the nesting area with the girls, seems like he has decided to join them, when one gets up to feed/drink he takes the nest over, then when the hen comes back he won't get up, when he goes to feed/drink a hen will take his spot, musical nest it seems. This is the first time I have had turkeys nesting, is this usual behavior ? Seems like he has decided if you can't beat them, join them. Or does this indicate that the eggs are not far from hatching ? Also have found some non viable eggs rolled quit a ways from the nesting area.
