I feed all of my chickens tomatoes, lots of tomatoes. My month old EEs eat so many maters that their heads are covered in hard, red, stuck together clusters of fuzz. I just laugh, call 'em Mater Heads and throw another in the brooder.

I planted heirloom tomatoes also. They are called German Queen. One plant is huge, covered in lush green leaves and full of fruit and the other four look like big green sticks with a few leaves and some fruit!
I have a German Queen this year too. For some reason, the bugs & slugs seem to prefer those over the Better Boy and Beefmaster tomatoes
so my chickens have been getting a lot of partially eaten GQ tomatoes. My chickens LOVE tomatoes!

I'm wondering if this post should be archived until jadude explains why tomatoes aren't good for chickens? "big no no" sounds authoritative and serious. It causes confusion. It's been several days now and jadude has not returned with an explanation.

I don't think that is necessary.
We all have different experiences and we all do things differently as far as poultry management.
While I would be interested in jadude's thoughts on this, no one is forcing anyone to take this advice. I think that anything in excess is bad, especially a highly acidic fruit liike a tomato. Information is just that. All valuable and all given with good intent.
By the way, mine LOVE tomatoes and they get the cherry tomatoes from the plant I grow just for them.
