Tomorrow I build the Cochin Inn...by myself

Well....you know how your eyes are bigger than your stomach.

Well....my idea was bigger than the time I had to work today. However, everything is cut and ready to go. All the 2x4's, all the metal and the flooring is in the box part of it.

It is not out in the pen yet. Tomorrow morning I will get up and load as much as I can on my golf cart and start taking it out there. Hopefully I can get it all put together tomorrow!! I have taken some picture already and will take picture tomorrow as I working on it. Then I have to figure out how to talk Harry and the girls to sleep in it. Will herd them in for a few days and close the pop door!

you've got the hardest part done ..getting everything together and ready to assemble. I bet it won;t take u an hor once u get in the gate.

I will make sure and take a picture of the gate I made and the Cochin's corner! I am pretty sure the gate is about 24" wide! But it worked at the time and the BO rooster could not beat up Harry!!

There is nothing sweeter than a Cochin....

Well....the wind started blowing here really bad. I have everything ready to go into the pen to build the little coop. NOW my DH says wait until tomorrow and he will help me put it together....he was LAUGHING!! He thinks I can't do it.

So, I went out today and got the chicken tractor ready and tomorrow morning am going to put the three cochins in there.....just in case I don't get done. We have snow forcast for Sunday and Monday and that was the point in trying to get this done. At least the tractor has a tarp over most of it and they will have a place to get in out of the weather.

Will post pictures of progress and the final project.

I think I can do it....but it will go much faster with DH......if I don't hit him with a 2x4 for laughing at me!

Waiting for him to get up! The main reason I have not been out there the last two days is because my MIL is staying with us until her apartment is ready in town. She is not just real steady on her feet and my house is a little hard for her to navigate....so I don't like to leave her for long.

HAVE to do it today. The three cochins need a place in out of the weather. So sweet. The two girls cuddle up with the boy. Nothing like my other chickens.

Done!!! And not by myself. And my DH did laugh but he did get all the pieces I cut together for form a coop. AND he did say in the spring, when he gets the bull dozer running he will smooth me out a place at the end of the runs we have now and build me another 'real' coop and run for the Cochins.

This one that I did for Sweet Harry and his girls I will save and it can be my Broody house!! I love chicken math....and it was his idea!

This is what I started with. It was given to me and it was a thing that tile is shipped in.

And finally a picture of Sweet Harry and his Sweet Girls...they are always cuddled up like this. Non agressive and so sweet to each other.

Thanks! I love my Cochins. Harry the rooster was a mistery forever.....could not tell if he was a girl or a boy. He was in with a bunch of RIR roosters and a couple of Barred Rocks and some Plymouth Rocks.....let me tell you....there is a difference. He was always gentle and stayed out of everyones way...not scared of them but skittled out of the way. Posted him three times trying to figure out if it was he or she. Equal guesses always. Finally he decided he wanted a girlie for himself and the BO roo beat him up. I was so attached to him by then there was no way he was going to the freezer or rehomed. So I sectioned him off a corner in the main run where he was very unhappy and sad. I know, he is just a chicken...but he was sad. FINALLY I found him a couple of girls. A momma and a daughter. They are all so sweet.

I am most excited about my DH saying he will build me a new coop and run in the spring! I will keep this little one for the broodies and get more Cochins. More girls for Harry! Any rooster that is that gentle and kind to his girls deserves more!! I want to keep them separate so I can have more Cochins. The Barred Rocks are separate also. And if I had known the Orpingtons were so sweet I would have gotten more of them.

Gotta love chicken math.

And.....went out to check on the Cochins after dark.....they were huddled up in the corner like always....not in the new coop. BUT they were interested it in. Tomorrow night I am going to go in and put them in the coop and close the door. Maybe after a few days they will start sleeping in it on their own. There is a top on the run of wire plus a tarp, plus tarp around the outside of the corner. I think they feel like they ARE inside.

The Lil' coop is small but plenty big enough for three birds. If we should get the weather we are slated for maybe they will go inside!
