Interesting to hear you all say she's good letting me get so close...
I've been patting her 2-3 times a day for three weeks so she isn't threatened by me. Lisa, my wife says she fluffs up and clucks at her, but for me, she just sits there and lets me do anything. I even pul off the broken eggs from the unhatched ones as they cup together.
She's a good girl.
Off to see how many are there this morning. Hoping to find 12.
Just looked, there are 11.
One of the eggs had almost no shell on it, and I could see the chick moving in the membrane, so I picked a wee hole for its beak to come out, which it did, and I put it back in. Three other eggs show no signs at all.
Chicken little got off to eat and drink while I was looking, showing she is almost ready to get off.
We didn't know what to call her so she was called "Chicken Little"
Anyway....
the one in the membranes, and no shell died, as did one of the little yellow chicks.
She got off the eggs today and sat in the grass and sun with the chicks, and left the dead ones and three eggs to go cold. We cleaned out the nest and put in fresh hay, food and water.
Yeah, how cute...our Pidge hatch one yesterday and one had pipped this morning....we just left her alone. I let her sit on 13 thinking only half would hatch......I was hoping for 5 or 6. Let us know how many you get total.
Were all those her eggs or other hens as well, the first baby we got is brown and yellow, but the one pipping looks grey and white, I let her sit on 4 different hens eggs...just curious.....
the one trying to get out of the shell with no shell, just membrane, and one little yellow one died.
Chicken Little got of the remaining three eggs and took the chicks into the run for some food and sunshine. By the time we got to the eggs they were stone cold.
So we got a total of 10 chicks out of 16 set eggs.
