Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Yay! I’m over here researching all about how I have to treat shipped eggs more carefully and differently than eggs that aren’t shipped.

I think if you have an upgright turner like those in the styrafoam incubators that the eggs are kept upright enough that the aircells repair even while turning unless they are really bad. If they are that bad though the chance that the egg will make it to hatch is not that high anyway.

I have a batch of shipped eggs that should be coming anytime after the 14th. For up here I have to allow them to sit for at least 24 hours just because they tend to get cold while in the mail. Hoping that by mid February the weather will start getting better so that won't be as much of a problem. I have that set of 2 dozen eggs coming and then another set of 2 dozen coming mid April, but I'll work on trying to hatch my eggs in between so it will keep going all spring until mid summer.

Haha ok so maybe I should keep checking every minute. When they internally pip, is that when you can sometimes hear them chirping? How else would I know if they internally pipped?
You got it. It's when you hear cheeping. If you hold it to your ear you can also hear tapping. And if you were to candle you can also see their beaks pretty clearly in the air cell if they're positioned correctly.

Ahhh makes sense. I didn’t think about candling since I’m too scared to open the incubator now that they are locked down. I guess that would be fine to do if none have externally pipped yet.
