Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Yeah I caught the flu somehow I'm thinking at the swim meet last weekend. I started feeling awful yesterday. I'm good though. I've never had it before and I think it's the worse feeling ever.

My daughter caught the flu this year too. It's terrible. I hope you recover quickly.

How are you feeling today @ShannonsChimkens?

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink :gig

The reason why my first few hatches I did with my own eggs is because I didn't want to be responsible for screwing up someone else's eggs.

I know not everybody has the ability to hatch their own eggs, but I truly believe that me doing that is the reason why I'm good at hatching now.

My first hatch was horrible because I had read on here the humidity that you should have and everything else. Little did I know you should really judge your humidity and stuff by your location. It just became a huge disaster.

I did get 21 chicks out of 30 eggs, but if my humidity wasn't so high I probably would have had 29 out of 30 chicks :rantI was so angry with myself and upset with myself. I decided that I was going to continue to try and my second and third and fourth hatch went amazing.

That’s the thing, I know we all start somewhere but people do sometimes need to admit the mistakes they made was the reason for bad hatches.

We all make mistakes, I still do myself but I always judge from the whole picture. If things were to go wrong in a hatch of mine i’d know it was my fault and not my chickens haha. Incubators are machines and things can go wrong

I mean, if people came to me and I knew they were hatching for the first time I’d either advise them to start with some cheaper breed fertile eggs or I’d be kind enough to give some as a ‘practice’ if and only if I have any spare.

I just think honesty really goes a long way and I prefer when people come to me and admit they made a genuine mistake and I can work with them. Some people aren’t so honest though unfortunately but that’s the way the world is these days.

Anyways, on a plus side, I think I had 2 bullseyes, possibly 3 today (one was hard to see after I burst the yolk! I’m still not collecting them up yet so I will continue to check them!

Yeah that's why I don't really like selling because people are really dishonest. I don't need that added drama in my life. If I do sell, once those chicks are in your hands... They're your responsibility. I always do straight run too because I'm not going to be blamed for sexing chicks wrong.

I also do that too, I never guarantee any of my birds sexes until they are fully mature and laying (or are visibly a cockerel).

I can give people an idea or guess as to what is what but I never say a chick is definitely male or female, especially with Silkies!

Silkies are my own personal hobby and I hatch for myself. Of course, I end up with ones which are not of a standard for me to keep and breed from so I move them on. People think I’m on some huge scale at times but I’m really not, I have far less breeding birds than what people do as backyard laying chickens. I’m super limited to space so I also can’t keep many birds till they are mature and I certainly can’t accept returns on cockerels!

Hatching is fun but damn isn’t it stressful :gig

Unfortunately, about the same. Chiropractor was able to get an adjustment in when the swelling went down yesterday, now right side of the neck is burning and ear. Holy crap there is so much pressure! Head feels like it weighs 100lbs. Will take months to get back to normal.

These little critters will definitely help keep the mind off the accident.

4 out and a few trying to zip. Closely watching the breathing of the one that was upside down. It looks to be breathing weaker.
