Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I'm curious, (and forgive me if you mentioned it at some point, I'm super forgetful, lol) did you use a carton for your shipped eggs or did you place them in your IncuView turner?

I had an 88% hatch rate with shipped eggs that were almost all detached or saddled air cells. I put them directly in the horizontal turner after allowing them to rest for several hours. It was a very shaken box so there were eggs that never developed because of getting scrambled but I was surprised that in my experiment with shipped eggs that the horizontal turner did not seem to impact my hatch rate poorly.

- In this case infertile referred to any eggs that didn't develop but I think it was actually more due to scrambling in shipment rather than none of them being fertilized but I was pleased that I only lost one egg that started to develop.

8/31/19: 88% SHIPPED EGGS (started with 15, 7 infertile, 1 quitter, 7 live chicks) Version 3 Nurture Right

That’s very interesting. Yes I did have them upright in a carton. 6 never developed. 6 quit super super early. Like by day 7. And then the 1 made it to lockdown.

I remember that. I went through and mapped all the temps in my Genesis after seeing that picture and started rotating my eggs every time I candle them so they aren't in one spot for too long. I will rotate them around the whole incubator every time I candle them.

That's right! Both you and Kris shared your temp maps. I learned so much from you, jolenesdad, MixedFlock, and Kris in that hatch-a-long. It was great having so many like-minded hatch fanatics together. lol, And here we are again still hatching! 😁

I'm using a new incubator that I got for Christmas. This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P5WJ4K...colid=5DJMNNESF10M&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it. Temp is only in C. And it won't hold a steady temp unless you keep the styrephome packing on it. So hopefully all goes well.

I've heard it's a very tough incubator to keep happy. My friend an I used a little yellow top china-bator once and nearly threw it out the window because it wouldn't stop beeping, lol. I've seen lots of creative approaches that people have taken with them though! Even using foam wall insulation to construct a box around it. Where there's a will, there's a way!

On the subject of rotating eggs in an incubator we shared this in a hatch-a-long last year and I found it very interesting for anyone that's interested.

Tons of people told me to get this image out of my head because it's not the same for all incubators. It would only be accurate to the specific incubator this person used. My incubator us the complete opposite. I have a cold spot in the right back corner so I never put eggs there

I wish I had saved the other temp maps that everyone shared last year because there were a few different brand incubators. I didn't think about it at the time, I only saved the one with the info :hmm. I may be able to go back and find them for future reference at least.

I don't think I could not hatch it totally is an addiction. I love watching the fuzzies in the eggs not sure my husband likes it as much as me but he loves me so lets me play lol. I still have both incubators I used for the last hatch we did and one is spot on all the time for temps. The other is better at the last few days because it tends to have warm spots when you get away from the middle of the bator.

I totally agree I have had tons of people tell me that the Genesis bators are horrible. Hard to clean hard to keep an even temp won't hold humidity. The only thing I have negative to say is that the temp and humidity for each seem to be off a few degrees. I bought a bunch of calibrated thermometer/hygrometer combos and put them in each incubator and don't rely on the one on the incubator. Haven't had a bad hatch with them yet. Most of the people I talk to call them death bators.
