too early to candle?

I always take the cautious approach - just in case I guess wrong. I would hate to throw any out that are actually babies. I have the hardest time with my Marans eggs since they are dark. I sometimes just leave them in when I am unsure - although I am worried I might have an expolision some day. I want to buy one of those high powered candling lights, but do not want to spend the money. My smaller ones are very bright, but not for the Marans.

Good luck with your eggs - I just set 2 dozen turkey eggs. First time with turkeys for me, not sure what to expect. My Marans and Ameracauna eggs have been in 1 week...hope they hatch well.

I candled again last night and the 3 eggs that I was iffy about a few days ago were bad after all.

On a good note the others are doing great and I was so excited to be able to see movement from the chicks.

One even looked like it was opening and closing it's beak. I am totally amazed and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a few healthy chicks to snuggle. 8 days to go.... hang in there chicks.
