Too late to start raising chickens in Alabama?

No problem. I have had chicks in Oct. Just make sure they get the proper amount of heat, feed and plenty of water. As they get more feathers the warmer they will be. Also you will notice them crowding together on their roosts when they get older and this helps them stay warmer. I did keep a red heat lamp on, on the colder days & nights about 3 feet above the roosts and they will sit wherever they're the most comfortable for the first year. I plan on getting more chicks and possibly some older pullets this week or next.

Hi! Welcome and looks like everyone agrees on hatching those babies. Glad to see someone on BYC forum thats so close to me! I'm in Jemison but I head south to Montgomery fairly often.

Let everyone know what breed, how many and how the little ones do. And don't worry if there ANY problems this place has your answers.
