TOO many eggs - what to do?

I made a good french style Ice cream not that long ago and it had 8 eggs in it and was soooo good. between bread and ice cream I don't think I would ever have to many eggs. Now all I need is some chickens : P

Ohhh, sounds wonderful...I think food and wine are meant to be shared with friends.

I have 16 hens that are coming into lay . Some have been laying since feb and some are still starting . I am up to a dozen a day and today was my first time to get 13 so I think most have finally started laying if not all . So last weekend I let the kids make eggs for sale signs cause I would love to get some money back for the feed and their is no way we are gonna eat that many eggs. I try not to cook much either LOL! Although we do have breakfast for dinner alot around here. just a suggestion some folk love the idea of fresh eggs that don't have hens.

I started with 12 chicks, and have now got 40, yes it's habit forming, maybe it should carry a health warning

I have only 11 laying at the moment, one of the original 12 just didn't come home one evening. But by early May all 40 will be laying, now I suppose I should consider myself lucky in that my Village shop takes all my surplus eggs, even when all 40 are laying she will take them.

The hens are already paying for all their own food (they do spend 8/10 hours a day free-ranging), when all 40 are laying the will also pay for the goat food (4 goats), when the herd increases (hopefully mid June) or in winter, then maybe the egg sales won't stretch that far. Do I buy more chickens, see I told you it was habit forming

Enjoy your chicks/hens they are wonderful creatures, and you can never have too many eggs!!!!!

My wife has several recipes that can make a dent in any egg surplus so fast you'd swear you never had any eggs.

We do a lot of from scratch things and you'd be amazed at how many eggs you can use. We are currently averaging 5 dozen eggs a week, we use one, one goes either to daughter or mother in law (alternate weeks), and three get sold.

I'm waiting for the girls to get the rest of their feathers in and more daylight (several of them are well along in their mini-moult and slowed down in the laying department). They were doing quite well late last fall. I expect them to back at it like gang busters shortly.

Meanwhile I'm getting some more fluffy butts and will either have two coops or will remove 11 of my current flock and replace them with the newcomers. I haven't quite decided what to do. My new gals are going to be Golden Comets, I already have three and they are very easy going birds.

Sell your eggs to defray the cost of feed and your other costs. Everyone loves fresh eggs and there is always a market for them. If you have too many at any given time, check out if your local food pantry will take donations of fresh eggs. Ours does!

Right now I give my extras to family first, then friends and the elders that are in need of a little love. Fresh eggs = love

I gave some to my coworkers and now they all want more. Right now I have four that lay but one is a bantam...and it's just coming into spring so I hope everything picks up. In about five months we'll have nine total laying. Hopefully the eggs I give away will turn into people wanting to buy some because they are so good! It would be so nice if they paid for their feed! Then we'd have free eggs too!

Am I the only one that thought "Halloween, here I come... Next kid to egg my house is going be suprised"
