I've got 9 hens currently who could lay. I am getting three eggs a day most days. I thought maybe it was the heat, but it has been incredibly comfortable for Southern Virginia this summer. Then I thought maybe it was the two snakes we killed in the coop.

Now, a week after the Great Snake Attack of 2009, still no eggs. So last night we moved our young roos out of the big coop and into the small coop. I had my main man Floppy the RIR, plus five teen age roos all in the run with my nine hens and one pullet. Could they have been the reason for the slow down in eggs?

I've kept one extra roo in with my main coop-"Mullet". He is a white silkie x RIR and while I plan to dine on my other extra roos, I can't imagine inviting Mullet to be an honored guest at our table.

I do not have an infestation of crawling critters-I checked. I do have two hens are are trying to brood over a golf ball. Still, I could potentially be getting seven eggs a day most days.

I don't really care if the girls lay a ton of eggs, but my relatives do and I feel guilty if I can't supply every one with eggs.
