Ok .. I'm new to all this and I'm not sure what to do.
I was told my 2 1/2 week old chicks are mostly roosters.
I have 9 babies and am being told 5 are Roosters.

To the best of my knowledge (which is very limited ...lol)

4 are Leghorns.
2 are Rode Island Red's ( I think they are both roosters.)
3 are Bantams of some sort ,,,lol

I love roosters they are gorgeous looking birds.
I was wanting Hens though, and one rooster. I think having so many roosters will be problematic, and I'm not sure what to do with the excess foul ...lol

any Ideas!

way too many roos-but not for now---you still have time to figure out what to do with the extras-sell them-keep for meat? give them away? I'm in the same boat too-debating on small separate pens??

lovin'mychicks :

Who is telling you and what method/basis are they using??

Someone I just met this weekend, she raised chickens herself before.
I'm not in a panic, just wondering what to do if this is so.
I do plan on posting pic's once they are older to try and determine (with everyone's help) the sex of my flock.

from Oklahoma.
It to hard to tell from the pictures chicks are still very young.
First off I don't think you have leghorns if its the whiteish chicks your thinking is leghorns . I would say they are sex links and the reddish colored would be pullets and the white would be roosters.
The 2 your saying is RIR very well could be roosters and you'll be able to tell soon the combs will get red and bigger .
The 2 little black one's looks like barred rock by color if they feather out barred you know a little more.
The other one ??
At 6 to 8 weeks its a little easier to sex chicks.
Best of luck I bet you have 4 or 5 pullets.

Did you buy them dyed. Almost all dyed chicks are roosters. I Bought seven and they were all roosters
