Hello -

I've seen several posts about not feeding too many treats. My girls I'm talking about here are 9 1/2 weeks old. The roam in a 40ft x 60ft "chicken yard", but aren't truly free range. This time of year, there is little to no green vegetation in that area.
I feed 18% protein crumble, which they always have access to. Almost every day I also give the some veggies (lettuce or broccoli or cabbage or cauliflower) and ever few days some watermelon or cantaloupe.

Are veggies and fruit considered treats ?
How much is too much?

Thanks for the feedback.

I started giving mine the odd treat, now when they see me they come running, they even wait by the door for me to throw something out to them, they remind me of dogs begging for food, they line up looking through the glass.

I believe the rule of thumb is that treats should constitute no more than 10% of total daily food intake - the 90% being proprietary feed.

When I say treats I mean left over food scraps, or watermelon, cucumber, cauliflower, bits of bread that kind of thing.
