I have a 9 month old bantam cochin pullet that just started laying Sunday. She has laid one egg daily since then. Today's egg had these (I'm assuming) calcium deposits all over it.

Is this a sign I'm giving her too much calcium? I've had eggs with them before but not this thick.

I had a feeling that could be part of it. I actually haven't used any yet. I can crack one open in the morning and report back if you like.

She was previously on Flock Raiser crumbles but I started mixing 16% layer crumbles in about 2 weeks ago because I knew she was getting close to POL. Now she's getting about half and half. Slowly increasing layer and decreasing raiser. All of her feed is free choice. Along with grit. She also gets about a tablespoon of 5 grain scratch every other day or so. Occasional veggies and greens. Yesterday she got cottage cheese for the first time. She wasn't a fan.

I plan on keeping her on the mixed feed at about a 90%/10% ratio of the layer/raiser. Just for the protein since she isn't quite a hen yet. Or should I go ahead and convert her over to 100% layer? Was also going to offer supplemental calcium as free choice, but now I'm second guessing it.

It's been a good decade since I've had chickens. It's all coming back extremely slowly. 😂

Along with grit.
Digestive granite grit(the 'teeth' in the gizzard) or oyster shell(for calcium)?

I have never fed anything but flock raiser...I just provide oyster shells in a separate feeder for the layers.
I like the higher protein for chicks and molters and it offsets the scratch grains I like to feed.
I toss out some granite grit with grains once in a while.

No need for cottage cheese.
