I have three ducks and I don't know what to do with all their poop. They have a house that is getting too small for them which is obviously something I need to solve, but I don't think it will make that big of an impact on how much poop is on the floor. Does anybody have and good ideas on how to clean a duck house and/or what you are supposed to do with all that waste. Is it toxic?
Also what kind of floor should a duck house have? Their current floor is chicken wire against the ground. It's very effective at keeping a very determined fox out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have my 3 buffs in a large dog house that we ordered off of Lowe's website.
It fits them just fine! They absolutely love it!!!
Put some pine shavings or hay down in the coop and rake/pitch fork it out of there every other day. We keep a clean hay trash can and a dirty hay trash can to throw our waste into-makes clean up a lot easier!!!
Duck poop can be dangerous....any waste from an animal or person is dangerous so wash, wash, wash , wash your hands!
For flooring, I would scratch the chicken wire--(you can leave it for now until you get a new house for them though because I understand it takes time to build or order supplies, but just put some hay/shavings over it! )
Chicken wire can be really harmful to a ducks sensitive webbing, and if cut, they can come down with a serious case of bumble foot (swelling on the bottom of the feet that can be treated by oral/topical antibiotics) NOT PRETTY LOL.
However, once you get a bigger coop or dog house, you can staple the chicken wire underneath the wood to prevent any predators from getting or digging their way in!
Hope this helps! Good luck with your babies!
