Too much "treats"???

I have been doing this for my girls most of their lives (they are 8 months) as we have a pullet with a wicked cross beak who cannot eat enough even in the special deep feeder. In the summer I was mixing their organic soy and corn free mash with nice cool water and now in colder times I use nice, warm water in their mash. They all LOVE it! Our cross beak gal gets a nice full crop and the others believe its a treat.

I will add either a little BOSS, oats, mealworms or organic corn to their covered run (rainy out in winter so they seem to be hanging in the run more) to give them something to scratch around for along with some nice spring greens. Twice a week they get a little organic yogurt or other treat. They all look fabulous and healthy. I am getting 6 eggs a week from the BR since September and now the same (so far) from the SS and the wicked cross beak (BLRW) has layed an egg the last 4 days as she just started laying. I do still have 2 more feathered freeloaders but they look great and their combs are getting bigger and redder as we speak!

I agree it depends on the treats. I get veggies from the store they are gonna toss. so my gals get tons of greens and veggies. they get very little startch
