Hi Is there an age limit for meat birds? I have a few layers and a Rooster but the Rooster is getting on a bit would like to let a younger one have a go.
I dont want to just get rid of the older Rooster and have come to the decision using him as meat would give him more of a purpose.
Im not expecting him to be the best tasting and fattest of birds but any advice would be nice.

:/Don't know how"old" your roo is but my 5 yo roo was LEATHERY. granted he wasn't cooked properly and now I know you HAVE to use LOTS of liquid and cook long. he was wasted. have 6 month old cockerel I will do this week and even HE has to be cooked as an old chicken, according to what I have been told on here. good Luck.

The crock pot is your friend.
Let Mr. Rooster cook until the meat falls off the bones, and eat him up, yum. Like I say all the time, chicken tacos, enchiladas, tamales, dumplings, BBQ sandwiches, etc.. The broth will be the best you ever had, rich and dark like beef broth. Best gravies and sauces in the world. Great base for chili sauce for enchiladas.
