Too or hen?

sweetie doesn’t let you get within 10feet of her, and is usually on a roost hanging out
Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

That handsome fella is indeed a cockerel.. becoming technically a rooster at a year old, though they still mature more after that. :love

Seems less than ideal to have him mating ducks.
I didn't know non Muscovy ducks would roost. :pop

Ya we are learning as we go! We just bought a house in August with a beautiful coop and run and wanted to get 2 hens this spring. But a friend of mine brought my daughter 3 chicks and 3 ducklings for her birthday in August . I was livid! but we named them and love them. So sad our sweetie has to be rehomed. Roosters are against city ordinance. We know little about the duck breeds, we were told they would lay larger richer eggs. But none yet. We know the large white one is a pekin male.

Congratulations! :highfive:

Never stop learning, it's an adventure. :wee

Craigslist farm and garden section is a good place to find a new home. Boy like that should easily find one for free or even fetch a few $. I agree with others suggestion that he appears to be a Lavender Orpington. I saw an ad today that said "don't ask don't tell anything about eating we DON'T wanna know". It can take a few weeks with renewing the post some before good response. I don't Facebook, but there's lots of poultry fanciers on there so it's worth mentioning. There's also a section for re-homing here on BYC, as well as a "where am I where are you" section that you might search out your state or location and connect with others close by. Hey, adding your general location to your profile can help folks make their best suggestions possible at a glance. ;)

If your drake tries mating the chicken hens... it can be a HUGE problem, maybe even deadly. Consider re-homing him also or plan to provide separation if they are housed together. I cannot overstate my concern here. Ducks mess around at night while chickens do not (unless it is lighted) and hens may be brutalized by attempted mating. At least look into it if it hasn't been brought onto your radar before and decide what YOU think the risk is, your mileage may vary. Sometimes, people do things and never face issues while another may do it ALL right and still face issues. Your at the right place for answers, opinions, and second opinions. BYC community has changed my flock, other animals, and family life forever, through support, understanding, caring, and sharing of knowledge.. in positive ways that will just continue to grow.

Oh no! I had no idea! Our drake can be pretty snappy and he is the most obnoxious one. And he’s pretty aggressive the last week or so with mating with Fred. I would be heart broken if something happened to my hens, they are social and friendly and mine lets me carry her around and follows us. I think I’ll have to rehome him also, I don’t want to take any chances! Thanks so much for letting me know!
