Too or hen?

This is my 7 month old speckled Sussex.. I’m pretty positive she is laying but I honestly don’t know at this point. She is 7 months old.. I’m so worried she is a roo… I swear I heard her crow once but she hasn’t done it since.. we have already had to get rid of one rooster and I can’t have another one.. help!

It has no male specific feathering, so isn't a cockerel. But the comb and wattles are truly enormous for a Sussex. I suspect it is a female with a damaged ovary. When that happens, they won't lay eggs and will get some characteristics of males. That's just my take but I've seen many examples of this before are yours fits the bill.

Agreed I think there is a hormone issue going on here.

I should have mentioned that she is also much smaller than my other chickens.. and her vent is much smaller too .. but this makes total sense. Thank you so much!
