Too young?

I know this is a little young but I have 4 week old chicks and both of my cuckoo marans (expecting one to be a golden cuckoo maran) have large combs at this point. The reason I’m questioning it this early is because the rest of the chicks don’t have very large combs at all. Is this just something with cuckoo marans having larger combs as chicks or could they be cockerels?

They could be. Single combs get rather obvious on cockerels early on. Large red combs combined with obvious wattles coming when no one else has them is a tip off that you have boys!

I know they aren’t very large it’s just that the rest of the chicks except them have much smaller combs.

He’s probably a cockerel since he’s so young.

It’s two different chicks so I’m guessing you think both are cockerels?

Oh I’m thinking the last one may be a cockerel and the first one I’m not sure about, maybe post about 6 weeks and I can probably tell you for sure.

They don't scream "cockerel" to me. It is a bit early, but the redness is not there and I see little in the waddle department. Here's a 5 week old chick that screams cockerel!
