I'm still new to chickens. I have 4 layers, 6 pullets, and a cockerel.

I was iffy about the cockerel, he was given to me, but I figured I'd test him out and if he doesn't work we'd eat him. I have a 4yo son and I'm really wanting to make sure my little cockerel doesn't get too cocky haha. So my older son is sitting in the pen, he's bigger than me, and my cockerel decides to crow. I read that crowing is a sign of dominance? So then I took a stick and chased him out of the pen and didn't let him back in for like 10 min to show him who's boss.

Later that night, I'm walking around the pen, and one of my layers squats down like I'm gonna try to mount her or something. So I guess I'm top rooster?

That's funny! I have favorite hens that have vip passes. They come up to my. And when I pet them, they vibrate and do what you said... :lau

How old are your girls? It's normal for girls near or at laying age to squat when hovered over. They'll even squat for each other if one of the girls stands over another. Sometimes my girls will squat when drinking and another girl comes to drink from behind. They've even done the "tap dance" when this happens.
