Top hat silkies vs bearded silkies?

I don't understand what a top hat silkie is? Top hat is often used in reference to polish chickens but it's just another term for a crest I believe.

All silkies should have a crest, but not all have beards. I guess I would contact the person and ask. They may just be using a term they saw online or they may be mixed with polish.

Hello..Sorry but what's that term for the head in Silkies? I'm thinking that's what's they mean?...

Hi! I have both bearded and non-bearded silkies. Both varieties are beautiful and I’m not biased to either. :p Anyways, "Top Hat" refers to a crest, all silkies should have crests. :)

Is there a different? They look the the same to me.

Sounds to me like the craigslist poster either doesn't know what they are talking about, or has heard people refer to them by the name "top hat silkie" because they have a larger plume maybe than some other varieties. The only "top hats" are polish and some rarer breeds like Appenzeller Spitzhaubens... But there isn't anything called a "top hat silkie".

The beards can be more pronouced between different breeders too. But again they all have some kind of beard, it's just about how big they are.

Honestly, if you like the look of the birds, go ahead and buy them, that's what really matters. But they're not some secret breed or anything.
