Top Strains of Production Reds from Hatcheries

I have personel messages from people who want the Production Reds to sell eggs to local people. Who do you know that has the top strains of Production Reds that pump out the eggs.

The more eggs per year the more the person can make a profit.

Look forward to your list of names that I can recomend. They will be ordering 100 chicks as layers PULLETS.

Bob,

ALmost all of the hatchery birds are high egg laying lines. Most hatcheries have great egg producing production reds remember this they will only lay very well for the first year then drop best to have a few males to reproduce and get new ones for years after.

Under natural outdoor conditions I have not noticed any of the red sex-links to drop precipitously in their lay rate after their first year any more than any other breed of chicken. They do go down some just as every chicken does, but it's not a major decrease. In environmentally controlled barns perhaps, but my understanding there the only reason they don't keep them two lay cycles any more is the strong public disapproval of forced molts makes it too much of a hassle for them. This is not a problem under outdoor conditions since no one would be doing that most likely.

I'm not real big on the red sex-links myself for reasons I have more management problems with them (feather picking and cannibalism) than I do with black sex-links or standard bred birds.

Thank you for your information. Normaly if a female lays say 200 egg her pullet year the next year she will drop to say 180 then the next to 160 ect.

You want used incubators. Would you be interested in a wooden incubator from Lehy? I have one that I dont need anymore. It has five trays and can hold I think eight you its the best incubator I ever owned its made out of Red Wood. bob

I'm wanting to upgrade from my LG 9200s. I already switched out one for a used 2362N, but would really like to switch out the other for a used 1588. LG 9200s are just so finicky and unpredictable. Sometimes great hatches, other times horrible. I think I'll try asking for a Genesis 1588 in the "Wanted to Buy" section!

I recommend Cackle Hatchery, have far better prices than most hatcheries. Haven't ordered their Production Reds or Cherry Eggers yet but my dad (he's 71 will be 72 in Feb.) wants to order some, he is a big fan of high producing chickens. I have ordered Cherry Eggers in past years and was really happy with them, they came from a hatchery that is no longer in business.
I have several breeds that I have ordered fro mCackle and am very happy with them as layers, they have just now started laying fairly well, I going to start keeping records on them this next year, to see haowthey really are doing. I heard the whole thing about slacking off after the first year of laying. I have my thought on this but will not go into it here.

Anyway I do recommend Cackle.​

I reccomend cackle too I got some Production reds and they are really well layers, they were also the first ones to start laying, theyve been laying for like 3 months now and they've only taken 3 days off out of all those days.
