Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is not an effective dewormer... nor will it treat cocci... and it's already present in most every feed...

Been using DE for about 7 years now and Vet has yet to say use worm med. in other words no worms found. that is in all my animals and birds. I use DE in feed every day it is mixed in each time I open a new bag. So I will stick with what I know that works.

But has the vet done any fecal tests ? And if your chickens are healthy , why would you need a vet ? Just curious.

Earlier this year I contacted "Merial" one of the biggest manufactures of Ivermectin in the USA. They informed me that they have "no information on treating poultry with ivermectin". Where are others getting poultry dosage information?

Before I will use any medication, I need four questions answered:

1) who supplied the information
2) what was supplied
3) where was it supplied
4) when was is done

Smart person! Merial won't tell you what the ivermectin dose for chickens because it's not labeled for use in chickens.

I get my dosing information from reading several different veterinary text books, artices written by vets, properly documented studies, my vet, vets at UC Davis, and from posts where people have stated what dose their vet prescribed. I do not trust dosing info from places like Gale Damerow's books, the chicken chicks website, etc.... all of those have dosing errors!

Two of the text books I reference are online, but do require a little brain work to use them.

In the US, many people do yearly wellness exams. Lol, the various vets I use send reminders via postcard or email saying "your pet X is due for his/her yearly check up".

All my animals get a yearly check. Chickens are only ones that don't. Dogs and cats have not had worms for last 7 years or so. Vet always sends a notice. There are several other things that help keep chickens healthy and they are called Herbs and the oil from them placed in water helps also. I will continue using DE and other organic products. If it works leave it alone.
