Let us know.. may be onto something.. could try fermented food, the lady that has that link for the holistic first aid kit for chickens had a video about it on her youtube. Fermented foods are good fro allergies. I give kefir to my dog and cat for allergies & yeast infection of the skin & ears.

Maybe I should try fermented feed.

I'm allergic to most things. Right now if I'm exposed and ingest too much of a trigger, (Tomato Juice was the last major trigger) I experience inflammation and puffiness on my hands arms and lips and then the skin cracks open in several spots. *sigh* Very lovely indeed.

Back to chickens, right now we freeze with being winter and fermented foods wouldn't work. I do appreciate your thought.

IF he shows that he does have irritations to the point of allergies, he'd no longer be kept as a breeding rooster. From the allergies I've experienced with my sheep...to the allergies that run in my family and that I've passed on to our son, on that basis I deem allergies to be a heritable trait. If it was manageable I would love him to stay as yard candy...that would work great. I'd never want him to suffer though.

IF he shows up to have chronic issues with redness due to parasites, he won't be kept as breeding stock because of that either.

Hi there and good morning. I have a duck almost one year old who I suspect has botulism She is weak not walking but drinking water and eating a little. She is a big eater so a little is not the norm. Well I took her to our vet an avian specialist. He gave her a shot of baytrl. He ordered blood work so we will know if it's botulism or not. I have been getting up all night checking on her. She seems better no fever and is up yet not walking yet. This is my second time going through this with ducks One made it the other was allergic to the antibiotic and didn't make it. Pollito is now immune to almost everything. Hopefully Pio is also a happy ending. Any suggestions we rushed her to the vet the minute we saw it was serious. I am praying for a good result. Anything I can do to help her with toxins?

I had a rooster with his whole underside like that. I didn't see anything. I gave him a bath which made no difference. (I thought perhaps irritation to something)

And then I dusted him and red coted his legs late fall. I don't remember what the outcome was. I will nab him and check when I go out.

Hubby confirmed what I'm remembering. The redness left after dusting him. He also confirmed that I did everything in the order I mentioned. I hope this information helps with your decision. If you choose to treat for parasites, it's something that's not invasive or detrimental to her health. I would still continue to watch for signs of issues with her being a hen. With my guy being a rooster, it took that part out of the equation.

Update on Pio. Well great news my baby Pio has no infection as per her lab results!!!! So very happy. She does have her calcium high and very low phosphorus. She has .5 should be at 4. The vet changed her diet to increase this intake. Told me she absolutely not to eat cat food only her grains fresh veggies and fruits and waterfowl feed or started feed and want to see her progress in two weeks where the labs will be taken to ensure the issue is corrected. Pio is eating and walking a bit she no longer warm and pollito has not left her side so she is definitely in good company. Thank you all for your prayers and above all To God for his mercy saving her life. These babies are part of our family. Have a great weekend irene.

Just wanted to let you know my ducks were on manapro show bird high protein feed and fruits and vegetables but also got into the cat food so I separated them now from it. The Doc said the cat food eats away at the phosphorus. N case you all have cats and ducks and chickens like we do.

I'm glad to hear there is no infection. That's a good prognosis! I hope everything corrects itself and gets back on track.

I do have cats, and a dog, and a cockateil. Lol. However the dog and cat food is stored inside, in containers. Tightly sealed. So I doubt any animal (my pets can't even open it) can get in.. Good to know, however. Thank you! I hope your duck(s) get better!
