He did spar with his brother off and on if that has anything to do with it.Maybe during them clashing their spurs and legs together they would scrape each others legs.

Looks like leg mites to me as well.

With all the roosters I have...I'm finding some seem more susceptible to leg mites than others.
I'm also thinking the susceptible roosters' offspring seem to be more susceptible.
Has anyone noticed anything like this. Understandably...most of you may not be sporting a few dozen roosters.

Hi Linda, I also use D.E. on my hens and I've never had an issue. I love that it is all natural! But I was wondering what kind of sand you were talking about. Our coop has a wooden floor so would it work to use sand on it? I've been raising hens for about 2 years and I'm still learning all the right things to do. Thanks for any help you can give.

I haven't had to deal with leg mites (YET!) but do find that some birds 'taste better' to other mites and lice than others in the flock. Permethrin spray is the best! Trying to keep those house wrens out of the coop and run is really a challenge here, and they bring in the parasites. Mary

The two Roos. My chicken had a very bad infestation of leg mites so I gave her a soak in Epsom salts and dishwash liquid dried that off and applied coconut oil an then Vaseline. I kept applying the Vaseline and eventually they all peeled off. Clean legs again. Took a week.

I recently treated my chickens with permethrin spray for stick fleas and put Vaseline on their faces and necks and then sprayed the coop with sevin spray.
I am thinking I will need to retreat both in 3 wks when the eggs hatch ................?
