Topic of the Week - Preparing for Cold Weather

We use a fish tank heater in two outside DIY nipple buckets. The rest are inside coops heated to 40°F.

Those are very low wattage, but run constantly, so we've got them plugged into a Thermo Plug, so at least if it gets above 45°F, it'll shut off. Most of those on Amazon shut off at 50°F. Five degrees can save a few pennies. We've gotten this one at TSC before for under $10, so just watch the sales.
I used a fish tank heater in a water container too. Another type of container without nipples where the chickens drink from the rim. When the water level dropped the heating element burned a hole in the plastic.
