Hi - has anyone used Praziquantel liquid for leg mites? It is a common wormer used in horses and dogs. I have canaries and use a product called Scatt (it is liquid Paziquantel). Scatt is used to treat air sac mites and red leg mites. It is a systemic drug that enters the blood stream and lasts for approx 21 days. That is the life cycle of the canaries leg mites. It usually only requires 1 treatment. I was told to paint a little bit on legs where mites are present and place one drop on skin in their back between the wings. It is a little harder on birds system because it is systemic but you aren’t hoping that each bird drank some or having to dose by mouth. My thought is that canaries are much smaller & more fragile than chickens it should be fine to use on chickens. I contacted company the makes Scatt & asked about dosing & how long to avoid the eggs after treatment. They said because it is not approved for chickens in Australia (they are an Australian company) they couldn’t give me any advice. It is such any easy product to use but I would like to find out if anyone has used it in chickens. Thanks!

Not sure about prazi for egg withdrawal @ChickenGrammi .
Hopefully someone will be along willing to take a guess.
I just use bag balm on leg mites, messy but no chemical worries.
Pics your birds legs might help.

Welcome! Are you in the USA? Different countries have different rules too, and in the USA
it's not approved for use in chickens, so there's no official egg withdrawal, except forever. it works for tapeworms, which is not your issue here.
For a few chickens, treating the legs with vasoline is good, or Bag Balm, or vasoline with permethrin added.
