Hi there!,I joined a couple years back and i'm not sure if I introduced myself back then. We are originally from the Uk and dreamed of owning chickens in an urban setting but we never managed to pull it off. We then had the opportunity to move to Holland and after a few years were persuaded by a neighbour who had recently begun keeping bantam chickens. She stood on the street of a quiet neighbourhood road and pointed out the houses of the families which owned a rooster, those who kept this breed, and that breed of chicken and how many there were in each garden... When she mentioned the man up the road who had decided to keep a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig in his back yard which like all of ours, was sizeable enough, I was sold! We converted a children's outdoor play hut to into a coop and began with three buff Orpingtons which later expanded to five. Five free-range eggs daily.
Now we are in Toronto, Canada and longing for the opportunity once more. Holland is great in that there are virtually no predators, unlike the UK which has an urban fox problem. In Toronto there are raccoons and possums to reckon with...
Has anyone tips on how where to begin? We've heard Toronto has really strict laws to do with urban livestock...

I think the best I can do is suggest you post on "Canadians, check in here." as I have no idea about the restrictions/laws in Canada. But please stay tuned here because people responding to you may have more to offer. Hope things go well for you. :welcome
