thanks everyone.
Turdlebird, I do have a run, but I like to let them free range when it's nice like it's been before the snow comes.
I feel awful because ultimately I'm responsible for them. I knew I could lose them to something, just figured it would be a wild animal. We are in the country and don't have many neighbors. My other neighbor has 30 chickens he lets free range and has only lost one or two on occasion. Today my neighbor, who by the way has yet to acknowledge it could have been her dogs (they are big dogs don't know the breeds) even though my daughter found 10 all over her yard took them inside before she left. She NEVER does that.
One of the dogs use to roam free all over town, I've seen him carrying birds or ducks before. I think he got picked up for being a nuisance one to many times so she got the electric collar. Obviously that's not enough.
Anyway, I have a run. My husband offered to put a fenced in large area around the coop and run so they can go out into a bigger area than the run is when I'm home, but not outside with them. I work from home so I'm usually here most of the time. Then I could let them free range when I'm outside with them, but not feel like they are too confined to the run. does that sound ridiculous? And if we did put a larger fenced area around them how well does the electric poultry netting work? Where did you get it?
Thanks Again
