total FREAK OUT! (any advice/help needed)

Oh my gosh about the cat!!!! I have had DOGS do that but never cats. I know yarn/string can get wrapped in dog intestines and kill them, so that is what I thought would happen to my Joon Bug. But I am glad to hear she will probably be ok. I've been watching her and haven't seen anything odd. It just scared me because I am so new to chickens I wasn't sure if the crop could handle something like that.. Although I see Joon eating sticks and leaves.. I am glad to have this board though and be able to exchange stories. Thank you all for responding and calming me in my first chicken crisis!

Okay here's a story of string eating animals. We had a cat years ago that we didn't realize had eaten about a foot and a half of red acrylic yarn. I saw her straining in the garden, taking too long to finish her business so went to have a look. Well there was a piece of red string hanging out so I grabbed my garden gloves and took hold of the free end, which spooked her, and she took off at a dead run leaving me holding the ever-lengthening piece of string. My DH was watching as the other end of the string came out. He said in a very matter of fact way, "well I've never seen a cat with a pull-start before." I have a new DH now. LOL

Glad Joon is Okay.

I find it both distressing and comical: whenever they get something they're not supposed to eat, they run away with it and try to suck it down before I can catch them!

Maybe you should train the girls to come to you. I did it by saying, "chick, chick, chick" every time I gave them a treat. Now, they come running any time I say that. I don't have to chase them.

If it was hemp string that might explain if she's laying about and glassy eyed. If that's the case, take her keys from her and don't trust her with any big decisions.

LOL!!!!! No I doubt it was hemp, but boy I am biting my tongue to not share a story about Joon that could be considered inappropriate.. Ah well.

My girls come to me when I have treats like boss or scratch, but definately not when they have something they think is better. You should have seen me running around my yard, ducking under dwarf fruit trees (stupid trees..) trying to catch her. It was quite the scenerio! Boy that girl can RUUUUUUN! I am signing her up to play for the San Diego Charger's next season, because dang, she is quick on her feet.

Everything is fine and dandy, Joon is happily plucking around the yard, acting totally normal and fine. Hopefully it will stay that way

Thank you all, the responses kept me calmer then I was for sure. Now that I think about it, ranchers with chickens and other animals probably have all KINDS of crud lying around, so I am feeling better that chickens are pretty hardy when it comes to eating strange things.
