I'm very new to raising turkeys. I have a Spanish Black Jake and just recently got a Bourbon Red Jenny. Will these two make good offspring? They are both young, maybe 8-9 months? Right now she's in quarentined. He's in a pen nearby, but not in direct sightlines. Will they still need to be separated when she's out of quaretine? When she does lay eggs, would it be better to incubate or let her hatch them herself?

Hello! Welcome to BYC!

Your turkeys will make fine poults of mixed breed heritage.

They should be able to be together once quarantine is over with as long as they get along. Generally opposite sexes do fine.

As far as incubation goes it depends on whether she goes broody on her own or you want to incubate the eggs. That's just a personal choice and also how long you want to wait for her to brood. Congratulations on the new girl!

My jake is having runny poos. Should I be worried about it, or is it just because he's been drinking a lot of water?

Yeah drinking extra water can cause runny poop. Is it warm where you're located? Mine do on and off as I'm in Southern California and the weather's usually on the warmer side.

So not anything to worry about then. He's eating normally. I just love my turkeys and don't want anything to happen to them.
