Toulouse or Pilgrim?

I've decided to get 8 geese in the spring. I am getting 4 buffs, and 4 of either Toulouse or Pilgrims. We want to breed them for meat and general purpose. Any suggestions?

Is one breed better than the other? What are the pros/cons of each breed?

Pilgrims are auto-sexing, the males and females are different colors at hatch. Other than that (and the fact that they are more rare), their's not much difference.

I can only speak for Pilgrims since I've never had any Toulouse, but the Pilgrims are great birds. Friendlier as adults if you handle them when they're goslings, good alarm birds when someone enters the yard, beautiful, auto sexed through life. They are terrific parents. Our gander is three this year and has a two year old mate and 2 - one year olds. The 4 of them are out in their house right now happy as can be and it's -38 degrees this morning! They get big very quickly and were bred to be meat birds. In his "Book of Geese", Dave Holderread says they are his choice for the "home goose flock". We really love em.

I have had both but Pilgrims would be my pick to. The big drawback for toulouse is that you never know just what you are getting except that it will be some shade of grey. I have seen "toulouse" that had either China or African mixed in (tiny knobs or smooth feathered necks. even some that appeared to have Canada mixed in.
