Toy ideas for small parrots?

I'll give you the idea I use for all sized birds...

You'll need:

1. some small rope
2. clean wooden Popsicle sticks
3. wooden clothes pins
4. various beads of different shapes, sizes, and colors.

Step 1:

Cut a piece of rope. Size it so it will hang down a little from the cage but not touch the floor. You will want to make it longer than you want it as once you add the accessories it will be shorter.

Step 2:

Either take a drill and drill holes threw the Popsicle sticks or just tie the to the rope, your choice. Then string them threw the rope in a few different places.

Step 3:

String the beads threw the rope to make it colorful.

Step 4:

Attach to the cage with a clothes pin and feel free to let it so they can chew on the pin also.

As far as foot toys go lovebirds and parakeets don't really use their feet but you could get some small wiffle balls or a plastic jingle ball with no holes they can get their head, feet, wings stuck in and put it at the bottom of the cage. My Eclectus and red lory love them. You could also string them threw the rope if you want. You can also just buy a millet spray holder (should only set you back a few bucks) and hang millet spray for them (they LOVE it!)

They love mirrors and swings also I can't really tell you how to make those but their not super expensive to buy. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.

i have linnies, there about the size of a lovebird...some of their favorite toys include anything they can hang upside down from, particularly small boings and rope toys, anything with bright beads and toys i find in the cat department, mostly those litle plastic balls with bells in them.
and paper...they LOVE paper!

Go to either a craft store or a home improvement store and look for plastic chains. The chain link ones that they can't get their toes caught in of course.

You can try many different cat toys and either hang them from the top or the side of the cage with some rope or thick string. My large birds love wooden clothes pins.

Be careful with beads. Bigger parrots can get small pony beads stuck in their beaks.
And string, it has to be safe. Butchers twine or un-colored cotton rope is ok.

If you use anything with metal, it has to be nickel plated, or stainless steel.

You can go to the dollar store and get plastic baby chew toys. They love them. Just

be sure it's solid plastic, the ones with the gel inside are not somthing you should get.

And a pack of plastic jacks seem to be an interesting foot toy (not the metal ones)

Just a plain, balled up peice of copypaper. It's amazing to them

You can candy-wrap a peice of millet, or some treats in copy paper, or paper towels.

Ya know, the way they wrap tootsie-rolls?

you can also get wiffle balls at the dollar store. Most birds love

them. You can get soft ball, and golf ball sized. I stuff them with treats and

throw them in the bottom of the cage.

I'll have to get some pictures of a few

homemade things.

For the parakeets and tiels, their favorite toys are those cat jingle ball things hung from the ceiling. They'll grab them, swing them, chew them, throw them, hang upside down and flap so they spin on them, and throw them at each other. Second favorite thing are just butcher's cotton and oil free twine tied into little puff ball shpaes to chew on.

The Tiel just likes to eat, so balls of paper with millet inside are his favorite chew toy. He doesn't play with the balls as much, other than the one i've trained him to hit while I point at it to get a treat. LOL The tiel does use his foot to hold things up and manipulate them unlike the parakeets, so he loves to chew up and destroy q tips. He'll fly into the bathroom to raid the q tip jar when we're not looking.

I go through a lot of q tips.
