Toys?

I put a log from our firewood pile in the brooder, a new one each day so it won't get poopy. I start with a small diameter, about 2 inches, then gradually increase. Each log is a little different, and I try to choose ones with different bark, lichens, mosses, turkey tail fungus, etc, and some have a few bugs on them. The chicks find this tremendously entertaining, playing King/Queen of the Log, pecking at the bark, etc. To be sure they don't cut their feet, I sand the cut edges of the logs. Put split side down, so they don't get splinters on feet, and so that the interesting bark side is up.

I also put them outside in an enclosure a few hrs each day when warm enough, and put branches from trees and shrubs in it for them. They love it.

I put a stick in their cage and took off all the bark. It was abot five inches long and a little skinyer than your smallest finger.

mine are about 19 days old now, i put a stock from outside, its about 1.5" thick, bark on, they love it. they peck the little bugs off that were under the bark, sleep there. I just put a cd in there and seem very interested in it. Once they get moved there will be sand boxes, balls, stuff like that. just something to keep them occupied.
