Tracking breeding and genetic data

What all do you track for when it comes down to breeding and genetic data? Is data tracked via pen & paper, spreadsheet, brain-power? What issues do you face and how do you overcome them? Are there any apps you use specifically that track everything you need to track? I’m looking into starting a breeding program with my French Black Copper Marans and want to make sure I do it well.

For small bits of breeding projects, I've sometimes just used my memory (issues: forgetting things.)

I've most often used pen & paper (issues: finding pen when needed, losing the paper), and I've sometimes put things into a computer (issues: computer is not in the chicken pen, need to remember to type the information in later).

I have not used any special computer programs, just a text file or word processor (issues: organization and finding the information again later.)

In the past with rabbits, I had written pedigrees. The color genetics for those particular rabbits were simple enough to keep in my head.

I'm sure that other methods exist.
I've never been serious enough about breeding & tracking it to need other methods.

I really like Kintracks (https://www.kintraks.com/)! It's fairly old-school in terms of design philosophy, but you also own it (if you choose to buy it, the free version works great if you have less than 200 critters to track) and they don't make you pay extra for new versions that come out.
But it's also pretty versatile, set up for many species from the get-go, and lets you get as surface level or as detailed as you like.

@wrathsfarm We were thinking of using them as a launchpad for a breeding project we had in mind but I hadn’t thought of doing a picture/story thread. I may have to at this point.
