Tractor Supply Chick Days 2018

Our TSC in Nebraska, had black and red sexlinks, and Plymouth Rock, and Easter Eggers, pan fryers.

The Orscheln had Plymouth Rock, black and red sexlinks, Ameraucanas, Easter Eggers, Buff Orps and Pan Fryers.

Baumgardners has the great fun breeds bantams etc. We have a small "hatchery' up the road, but turns out they just order from the big boys in Iowa and resell. T

There are lots of local breeders whose stock is on sight and not over crossbred. I used to breed (French BBS Marans) but am taking the season off. I'm too busy this year.

They sold out in a hurry but had Ancauna's and Americaunas and Leghorns.

The one across the county had Brahman's and Barred Rocks left.

Soon all of them will get in Rhode Island Reds, and White Leghorns.

SOMETIMES they'll get in fun stuff like Polish or silikies, but they're all in one bin and you just take home whatever you get.

Orscheln has a much larger breed selection, but they let everyone handle the birds. Heaven only knows what gets spread there. TSC only the staff handles the birds.

I would inspect purchases to avoid broken legs/wings, pasty butt, or splayed legs, or lethargic birds. Prior to purchase, but I'm not impressed with the cleanliness of the Orscheln stores When they were setting up last week for this years birds, they brought out a bin of supplies to set up. FILTHY feeders and waterers never cleaned from the end of last year's chick days. NASTY.

I can hardly go into a chicken tractor place with all the chicks, I would want to slap the chubby little hands of the unsupervised children that want to grab and squeeze, the mom probably would not see the squeeze, just the slap.

Local OH TSC is selling this week: red sex links, black sex links, bantams (assorted unsexed), Wyandotte (pullets, any one of a long list of colorations - a fair amount of variety in the bin), and 2 others that I can't remember but are very common breeds, plus 1 variety of ducks! No Easter Eggers this week, though.

@gimmie birdies, you'll be happy to know this TSC has them in tall equine waterers, inside a tall fence, with bales of cedar shavings between the bins and the fence. An adult would be very hard pressed to have a long enough reach to touch any of the chicks (In fact, I don't think you could touch them at all). They also have the gate to the enclosure chained shut. But they have an almost front and center spot in the store, so it would be hard to miss them.

Ya. I love going into the stores and hearing the little beepers. Makes me happy. All the employees at all the shops know I'm a breeder, but still ask me to take some home. NOPE, won't do it! Resist..the ......urge......!
