Tractor Supply Co Sexing - Accurate?

I'm hoping they have some EE's, because that's what I'm looking into getting. If I end up with some EE cockerel's, I'm sure they'd be easier to rehome to someone looking to keep them than my RIR cockerel's? I've heard EE's are more docile and smaller.

Heading out to TSC now, will post some pictures here when I get back of the chicks in the bins and the ones I get! :D

I'm interested to see what your TSC has. Ours just had California White and brown link pullets. The rest were straight runs, Barred rocks, cuckoo maran's supposedly, and another. I really wanted EEs too, plus we're in town limits so no roosters, so I ended up ordering online.

Thank you! That's very good to know. Hopefully the employee's know if they're vaccinated or not. If they don't, is it better to just go with unmedicated? Or take the chance with medicated?

I honestly could not tell you. This is one reason why I didn't go with the TSC chicks---I wasn't sure what to do as far as feeding and I wanted to do the right thing. The worst part was that I felt someone might give me information just to get rid of me and I would end up screwing up. Didn't feel right, so I passed on the TSC chicks. Went with my feelings on this one.

I have two TSC stores near me---one is a mess and the other seems to be run much better. Maybe there is a difference in conscientiousness and concern in different TSC's? I know they sell a lot of chicks on their Chick Days!

Will be uploading photos ASAP! :D I ended up getting 5 Austrolorp's and 5 Sicilian Buttercup's, because that's all they had pullets of aside from Rhode Island Red's. I'll look it up in a minute, but does anyone know what the "Watch" tag by the Livestock Conservation something or other means? Is that chicken endangered? It was on the Sicilian's.

Oh, also - mine seems to be run very well. The employee's are pretty knowledge, and I asked a man if they were vaccinated and he said no. They were shipped as soon as they were hatched, so the chicks are about 4 days old. They didn't have medicated feed, so I have unmedicated - is this going to hurt them in the long run? It's 20% DuMOR Starter.

Non medicated feed is better IMO.

Some pics of the 10 I got in their tub.

Sorry for the bad quality - I don't think they wanted me taking pictures of the chicks by the way they were looking at me. :lau:oops: I'm sure I'll be taking many more pics of the 10 I got. :p

Anyone have any info/experience with Australorp's and Sicilian Buttercup's? What should I expect from them? I needed more pullets, and didn't want 10 of the same kind, or any more RIR's, so I got 5 of each pullet they had aside from RIR's. I was hoping for EE's, but they didn't have any.

We have Buttercups and like them. Do you have pictures of the ones you got? I didn't see any Buttercup chicks in the tanks?

I'll go out and take a better quality pic, but here's one of them. The girl said she was worried they might be RIR's, because the girls who put them in the bins yesterday put RIR's and Sicilian's together and they seem to look very similar. Sicilian's apparently have a thin black line on their head? I somewhat doubt these are Sicilian's, based on the chick pictures on the Sicilian cards, but they also don't look completely RIR-ey or EE-ish either.

Unfortunately none of those are Buttercups. They look like this as chicks.
