Tractor Supply federal tracking!?

Delʻs in the Northwest & Hawaii are a division of TSC and buys from Ideal also. They are requiring the 6 minimum and a physical address for the buyer. Ideal did the same thing to me on a direct order. Even though they ship to my PO Box and my Visa is billed to that PO Box, they insisted that they wouldnʻt ship unless I gave them my "physical" address where the chicks would be kept. I kidded them about whether they were going to come and repossess them if my payment was no good, but they didnʻt think it was funny.

Several other threads have gone on about respiratory problems at Ideal. I hope this isnʻt related.

Mine are showing no signs of any illnesses and got delivered all the way to VT which is NOT going to be they're permanent address ((thumbs her nose at the tracking thing)). They're are all happy healthy little peeps some with a GREAT set of lungs

Well, I pay cash at all feedstores. Unless they want your ID, you can give them any address you like. If this is really a federal mandate, then they are trying in every sneaky way possible to get the location of all chickens in the U.S. before they can push NAIS through, it would seem to me. What if I'm buying them for someone else? My address is useless then.

I knew about the troubles at TSC after reading all these threads over the last week, but I still wanted to get three little bantams...and they told me they would be getting bantams when I was in there a couple of weeks ago.

I called the Florida Department of Agriculture on Friday & asked if there were any requirements for demographical information or minimum purchases of chicks. They indicated that this information was not required at this time & there are no laws governing how many chicks must be purcahased or sold. He did say this sounded more like a store policy than anything else. I asked if they could provide this in writing and he said that if I wrote a letter posing this question that they would respond with a letter....(basically if I call with a question, I get a verbal answer....If I email a question, I'll get an email response....etc). So I mailed in a letter with this question yesterday - we'll see.

In the meantime, yesterday when I went in to TSC (Zephyhills, FL), I asked if I could pay for 6 chicks, but only go home with 3. The woman who was helping me said "no problem"...but the manager thought it was a huge problem. He said there was a LAW stating the six chick minimum - and he was a law abiding man, by god! Blah, blah, blah.

We had a pretty lengthy (polite) exchange, and I told him about my conversation with the FL Dept. of Ag. and he said that this was store policy. I pointed out to him that store policy is VERY different from THE LAW. I told him that he could have a copy of my letter when it came.

In summary, I believe that this is a store policy. Nothing more. And very uneducated employees.

Buncha crap! If you want the final word in Texas, contact the TAHC at http://www.tahc.state.tx.us/ They are the governing body for the rules for importing/exporting animals into Texas.

You can also contact the State Veterinary Diagnostic lab at A&M. They may have more information as well.

I wonder if this has anything to do with taxes? If they know who has and is raising pullets, maybe they plan on coming after us if they suspect we are selling and making a profit on eggs.

I dunno. Just a random thought that popped into my head.

as far as the purchase of 6 chicks, i split my order with the clerk and she was thrilled... she didn't want to buy 6, and neither did i- there was no mention of any personal information needed either- i think it must vary from state to state

No feedstore needs you to buy chicks to know you have chickens; if you buy feed, they assume you do. I dont ever do business with TSC, but I think that the minimums are store policy. I can see the reasoning behind those...reduces the "buy one easter chick for the kids to kill" syndrome. The requirement for a physical address is something else entirely.

If Ideal has your address, they don't need to "officially" track chick purchases--they already know where they are mailing them to, so they are tracking. Most have them mailed to the place the chicks will grow up.
