Transitioning from roofed to roofless run

Keep fighting!
It's been a very stressful year for all of us, and maybe it's pushed him off the rails? Something close that he can attack?!
Motivation doesn't matter, getting this resolved as it should be, does.

Thanks! I won't give up. I've sunk too much into these chickens to just get rid of them. And yeah, maybe 2020 pushed him over the edge, but that doesn't give him the right to push me over any edges, too.

Dude, your whole situation stinks. I'm sorry your having to waste so much time on this guy. One thought is the you can run vines up and over your run "roof in the summer and fall". It would provide your chickens with shade and protection from the rain.
Good idea. I'll double check with the commissioner just in case, and will look for something fast-growing to plant in the spring. I already have some English ivy and Virginia creeper nearby, maybe I'll direct them up the run walls.

What is a roof? Is it solid or flexible? Does plastic count? Is a tarp a roof? How about a shower curtain?

I would think that a roof is quite easy to define -- any rigid, waterproof structure fastened to and supported by a permanent frame. Especially if "roof" is what make a building -- which would, by definition, have walls and a roof.

A tent is not a roof. A tarp is not a roof. A plant-covered trellis is not a roof. Wire screening is not a roof.

Could you fashion a large table in the run abutting the coop. Not ideal, but would give a few more covered square feet to be out. A couple pallets on the ends and one in the middle with a sheet of plywood. Or some long boards. I just ripped down an old deck. Got some salvageable deck boards. Free for the taking.
Good idea! Well I'll have all this roofing material now... So I can make a table out of that!

I'll bet his previous neighbors are SO glad he's gone! Too bad he moved next to you though.
What do the inspectors say about re-arranging your run location, just enough?
LOVE folks who move in and want things changed, just for them!
Living in the boondocks is the best, BTW.

Here is hoping that he is taking advantage of a hot housing market. Maybe he is just going to flip it. :fl
