transitioning to coop

First time at raising chickens. They are mostly feathered out, I know it is too cold to put them outside yet. But should I be turning the light off some during the day or night? I do not want them to freak out their first night out in the coop.

How old are they and what is your temp. Low?

They are 5 weeks, and unseasonably low in the 40s at night.

Well, get them "hardened off" similar to potting flowers.

Actually, my 5 week chicks went out to the barn last week. Our temps are 50F daytime and 34F nightime. They lovin' it. No problems.

My are being 'hardened off' by being in the garage first. They love it too. I can't wait till they get to go out with the big girls! (In a protected pen, of course!) The new pen we built them can be used like a tractor too!
