transporting 3 adult runners, and introducing them.

Ok, so we picked up the runners today, the poor things were filthy. Especially the “white” one which I thought to have some bill deformity but the poor thing was so impacted with dirt in her nostrils it looked like mud wasp nests. They had plenty of water to dunk in on the way home but I am currently setting up a new trough for them
to get in . There doesn’t seem to be any issues so far st first meeting. What do you all think? Let them in gen-pop?

Hello Seth, Glad to see and hear you made it back home safe and sound with your precious cargo. Sorry to hear your new addition was in rough condition when you got there to pick them up, some people just don't get it. :he I am sure they will be much happier in your care:celebrate Great video, please keep us post on how they do when you introduce them to their new flock.:)

I just helped my family move 3 'tween' ducks that would be about the size of runners. used a 18 gallon tote with chicken wire overtop. No problems - they'll probably be fine in a kennel used for a lab as long as you put stuff up to block the poo flinging etc...

As for laying and providing - I use layer feed and let them roam the run. I don't offer up oyster or grit as they've never had a problem with soft shell or anything.

Got the back story. They were being raised for a herding demonstration for the agricultural fair. When that got canceled they weren’t needed and the long term care wasn’t something anyone wanted so they were up for sale. I’m not opposed to the demonstration on a philosophical basis but I am opposed to them being so filthy they can’t breathe. I thought the white was was 2 colored at first

that's sad :(

The lighter one with the dark bill looks to be a welsh/runner cross

They are beautiful I I believe your “white one” maybe silver, here’s my silver. I’m sure if we could understand duck they’d be saying wow what a beautiful place we now have. View attachment 2204406
that’s a pretty duck! We have been sitting up in the driveway observing, wish they would get in the pool. They could really use a bath!
