I am planning on visitting my Mom tomorrow for the holiday. Problem is I have a self-made incubator with 15 day old fertile eggs that need to be turned. How can I bring them with me? She lives about 1½ hrs away. Pls help. Don't want to loose any.

That's really close to lockdown for chickens... I'd lockdown early Due on the 10th-ish? You'll be back what day?

Does your incubator hold humidity really really well?

My opinion my be worthless but I quit turning the last batch and lost one albino bird- the others were never developed - the duck egg (one duck egg out of the 11 chicken eggs) was not turned from day 18 - day 23, candled and returned to duck lockdown

I have read many places that they do not have to be turned beyond day 14. Prior to day 14 they have to be turned because they could stick to shell. Beyond day 14 they have developed bones, feathers, etc. I could be wrong as this is my first hatch. Just passing along what I have read in several places.

I travelled to my dad's, spent a week with him, then travelled back home with an incubator on my lap :) He lives over four hours away. The solution: an inverter. Buy one from Amazon, or elsewhere if you can find one cheaper. It converts 12V (your cigarette lighter) into 240V, or in your case 110V?
I think mine is called an e-can or something like that. It's designed to sit in the cup holder of your car and you plug a regular plug into it. You'll need to wedge the incubator and make sure you go over bumps slowly. I put my eggs in an egg carton with the bottoms and tops cut off to allow for air circulation. It meant the eggs didn't roll around.

They all hatched healthy and happy.

One more thing... you might want to take a white blanket to put OVER the incubator for when the sun is shining through the window... it can heat up pretty quick.

How big is your incubator? Can you buy a power converter and load it into the car with you? If so then you can just take it with you and not worry.

Oh, and in case you do not know, a power converter plugs into your car "cigarette" lighter and converts the power over to be used with house hold plugs. This is just a thought. Otherwise I would ask a freind or neighbor that you trust to come take care of them.

It's a small styrofoam ice chest. I was thinking about putting a warm pack on them for me the drive.
Don't think I have enough time to get the convertor.
