Trap didn't kill - ? Feel bad now.

Thanks you are all so lovely and encouraging to me.
Yeah those darn traps are not nice sometimes. DH and I were there last year when one went badly wrong. It came down on the side of the head of a mouse and litterally tore his ear and half the face off we dispatched him very very fast as we have a handy rock that props open the coop door so it doesn;t blow back on our girls. - We only put traps out at night so our girls are in bed and the local birds - Who also steal the chicken feed are not about. I do try hard not to hurt the animals. I like a clean kill but so often it doesn;t happen that way. I may try the peppermint -????????????? That sounds good to try anyhow. Cause if it works I can evict the momma mouse from the food store without killing!!!

Oesdog -

the spring that powers the trap can be tuned I put a coupla pennies under the end that rests on the wood it speeds up the traps action HTH

Please don't feel bad about that mouse. What happened to it's leg, just slowed it down so it is easier for your chickens to catch it. You just asdded some good potien to their diet and they love you more for it.

Oh I wish that were true. But I have an issue - my head girl Gerty thinks mice are chicks and she tries to brood them. They all end up in her feathers and when I try to shoo them off her she bites me for it??????? She is a Maran and grey in colour and the mice are little tiny grey critters so maybe she really does think they are chicks - anyhow because she is boss I really don;t think she would let any of the other girls actually eat one???? I must try to get a photo next time she goes broody with chicks/ I mean mice???? I do know chickens are supposed to eat mice??? But I really never have seen mine do that. Poor Gerty would be horrified!!!!!

Your chicken broods mice? Oh my goodness, my husband would kill a chicken like that so fast! He hates mice.

I'll have to tell him that just to see his expression!

Oh oesdog, I feel your pain....
I am the exact same way....

My boyfriend sets those awful mice traps in the garage and I go around setting them off with out him knowing......
I cant stand it!!

I save mice from my cats ALL the time, I just cant sit and watch that torture.

I live in the country, and so do they. I keep things in aluminum pails so they cant chew or get into the feed and scratch. I keep crumbs and things off my counters. This discourages any mice activity.

I would feel AWFUL if I saw that too. Some people just dont understand, but I truly do.

And maybe you can think of another way to solve your mose problem without those awful traps...

I just read in Mother Earth News that pepperment oil will keep mice out of your house so will probably work for other buildings too, put on cotton balls and spread around.

i am the same way.i once put out a glue trap because i was trying to see if i had anything crawling around.sure enough i caught a mouse and spent an hour unstickying it from the glue.i let it free in the pasture.also i knew there was a mouse in the feed room and i found a box with a nest in it with 4 hairless babies.i let them be till they were grown but then i let the cat sleep in there one night and i didn't see anymore.i can't have the mice living there but can't kill then either so i let the cat do it when i am not around.

we want to see pictures of the hen with the baby chi..mice.
