Trapped skunk, Now what???

Lol good i would put a heavy duty garbage bag over the tarp and trap so your car doesn't get stinky unless you are putting it into the back of a truck
It's going in the back of our pickup, but still going to put down some plastic to help reduce the smell. Thanks for giving me the idea to bring a trash bag with though, That way I have something to put the plastic in so I can dispose of it at home. Not going to leave that out in the woods.

Thanks for planning ahead so well with the garbage. It’s amazing how many people (not on this site, but in my area) will happily abandon trash in the woods! Best of luck with your disposal plan.

Skunks are cute, until they are in the yard or at the chickens! Like raccoons that way. We all get over the 'cuteness' after having losses to them, and dealing with the rabies thing.

That is so true! Yeah, it's a cute little thing, but not that cute.

It's pretty bad where we live too. I get so mad when we go camping and find trash all over the places from others.

So far so good, Here's our little bugger. It's not as small as I thought.

Take one of trying to cover it LOL Sorry about the quality of the videos.

Take 2, Success!

You don't need a tarp. A simple blanket will do. Hold the blanket up in front of you so the skunk can't see you and drape it over the top and sides. Pick up the trap carefully and move it. If you have a container of water deep enough to cover the whole trap you can drown it. It dies quickly and I have never had one spray doing that. You are not dealing with an animal that may not die right away from a bullet and you don't damage your trap either.
You have the hang of it in your video. If the tail isn't up, they are not overly concerned and more than likely will not spray. I have removed several that were also sound asleep in the trap and had to be forcibly shaken out. I set traps for coons and the skunks get in there sometimes. Fortunately, the skunks I have here are not interested in chickens but they will ferret out eggs that were hidden in the bushes and they will eat chicken feed.
